Government College Barsar, District Hamirpur (HP) was founded in 2007 as a co-educational college. It was set up by the Department of Higher Education, HP. The college is affiliated to Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla and is covered under section 2(f) of UGC act 1956.It imparts education in Humanities, Commerce and Science at undergraduate level. The college also runs self-financing courses BCA, BBA and PGDCA under Higher Education Institute Society.
The college has its own campus located at Baroli at a distance of 1 Km from Barsar and is spread over an area of 8.12 acres. The college possesses adequate infrastructure in terms of classrooms, laboratories, library, playground, canteen and girls common room. It is a rural college which caters to the needs of people from farflung areas. Some students travel 25-30 kms on hilly track to reach the college. Indeed, this college is proving to be a key factor in providing quality education at the tertiary level to the people of the region. The college has an experienced teaching faculty and more than 60% teachers are having Ph.D. degree.
UGC Resource Centre is set up to provide internet access to the students. The college has been accredited with C Grade by NAAC in 2019. An Internal Quality Assurance Cell is constantly striving in tandem with college administration to bring qualitative improvement in academics. A well oiled NAAC committee remains busy throughout the year, to prepare for the subsequent cycle of accreditation of the institution.
The college has one unit under NSS which inculcates qualities such as leadership, sense of responsibility and dignity of labour among the volunteers. In order to spread awareness among youths about health & hygiene, Red Ribbon Club is functioning in the college. Moreover, college has Rover and Rangers units for boys and girls which are doing a commendable job in enlivening its motto ‘Service above Self’. The college has sufficient sports infrastructure to provide opportunities to every student to excel in various sports.
The Career Guidance Cell of this college is functioning efficiently to guide the students for various competitive examinations. Consequently, considerable number of students has been enabled to find employment in various government departments, Armed Forces, public & private sectors, multinational companies, etc.
